In 1972 Glenblairie was established with the
purchase of the first Galloways, black
cows from the Blairgowrie Stud.
Owner of Blairgowrie, Caleb Hodges a wonderful
cattleman became a life long friend and mentor.
Caleb was responsible for introducing us to the
Belted Galloways.
The herd was further established in 1975 with
the purchase two Belted Bulls in N.Z. This
was followed on with the purchase of a
herd of Hikawaii females bred by the famous
stockman Les Wilton, in 1983. These cows
were of Boreland genetics from Scotland.
The purchased Strathmore Park Primrose
was a significant point in the studs history,
with Strathmore Park Primrose being shown at
Royal Melbourne, taking out the Broad Ribbon for
Champion Belted Cow.
Three Belted bulls were then imported from New
Zealand, notably, one of these bulls was
Strathmore Park Quentin, a bull of serene
temperament and extreme length and good
conformation which was selected by Erica on her
trip to N.Z. in 1983.
Another, Strathmore Park Victor, a
full brother to Quentin, a perfect specimen, but
smaller in size was also subsequently purchased.
Glenblairie have successfully exported his semen
to USA. His progeny's eye muscle
surpassing both black and belted animals at the
shows where they were exhibited.
Glenblairie's last importation was Anderson
Hill Jackson, a superb black belted bull
from Anderson Hill, U.S.A.
His sire, Bolebec Dun Controller, was a Triple
Crown winner in U.K. and Anderson Hill Jacksons
progeny are simply superb gelling beautifully
with the Glenblairie Genetics.
Comments from experienced breeders and
purchasers of Glenblairie Stock have commented
that these cattle are the most correct and
quality stock in the country.
By line breeding, we have also established an
outstanding line of miniature belties.
Don't be fooled. These cattle are deep and
long, wide of girth and heavy carcase.
Ideal for small farms and our mini bulls are
excellent over heifers.
Distinguished visitors to the Glenblairie Stud
have been Helen Hamilton (Vice President
Scotland), Flora Stuart(Dec), John Jeffords
(USA), Mr Bradley (Canada), Dr Dick Butson
(Can), Jerry and Kathy Jurkowski(USA) among many
others.
Glenblaire Belties have formed foundation stock
at Budawang, Cumbria Partners, Inyona (Tas),
Spring rises (Tas), Karandrea, Warialda, Te
Papa, Sunrij, Lockebery (WA), Kaidenth (NSW),
embryos have been exported to Scotland and
semen to U.S.A.
Glenblairie genetics has had a significant
impact in the Australian Belted Galloway
scene & I am sure will continue to have a
positive impact for many years to come.
